Suryapur is a village near Barrackpore in the North 24 Parganas District of West Bengal. Under the auspices of the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission, the under-privileged women and children who reside in this village have got together and formed a self- help group with a view to learning skills like making “abhir”- a powder from the flowers that are offered by devotees at various temples all over the State – and “agarbatti’s “or “perfumed sticks” from the left over from the flowers - so as rehabilitate themselves and allow them to earn and live with pride and self-dignity. RNCT is lending a supportive hand to this self- help group to enable them to realise their goals. Appended are some pictures of the SHG members busy in their activities. |
